Feeding Frenzy!

We started introducing Eva to "solid" foods. This has been a fun experience. However, it is not as easy as feeding her milk. We've gotten into a great routine with her milk and everything is pretty much easy-breezy in that department. These solid foods have opened up a whole new world: sticky face and hands, more interest in what mommy and daddy are eating, rocketing food out of mouth and onto mommy's face and clothes. One particular challenge with solid foods has been trying to get her to focus long enough to get the food into her mouth. In order for it to work, we usually have to sit her on someone's lap and restrain her from trying to leave. When she sits in the Bumbo to feed, she just wants to turn her head around as much as she can (imagine an owl) or she wants to fold in half and grab her toes to suck on (sometimes she will settle for sucking on the sides of the Bumbo if her feet are to hard to reach). This makes it very difficult to feed her because she is not the best with solid foods yet, and if she is not sitting pretty much straight up, the food just slides right out of her mouth.

Yesterday, after 10-15 minutes of food sliding in and out of her mouth because she refused to sit up straight, I decided to give something new a try. I put a bright colored bib on my head. Eva thought it was hilarious to see me wearing something on my head. She stared and giggled at me pretty much the whole way through the feeding. She finally sat up, and amidst the giggles, she swallowed down her rice cereal! Success!
